The Easy E Chords

This is one of the easiest chords to learn and play. It was my first chord that I learned on the acoustic guitar. Most people can play the E or E Minor chord right off the bat.

The E chords are in so many songs you hear everyday on the radio. Its an easy transition chord as well.

If your a beginner acoustic player this is a great album for learning new chords like Em7 along with some not so hard lead parts.

The song is tuned a half a step down ,so if you’re  trying to play along with the song it wont jive.

If you would like to see my how to video on how to play this song leave a comment below.

Fun facts:

The concert wasn’t aired until May of 96 and not realest on CD until July of 96. It made it up to the top 3 songs on the Billboard 200

A full length DVD of the concert was also later released in 1999.This event was one of the final appearances with vocalist Layne Staley

Acoustic buddy: I suck today

” I suck today” meaning you can’t seem to hold those chords right and they won’t ring clear. This is something everyone goes through, even veterans.

You will have days where your fingers don’t want to work right, or your hand cramps. It helps to practice as much as possible and then those days get to be few and far between.

Never give up ,its just a wooden box with strings….Chris Smith ,Fl

Your mind is your worst enemy. It’s all part of the process to be horrible at first and then it all starts to come together. Songs get easier to pick up on ,and the more you sit and play with other fellow acoustic lovers the better you get. Martin guitar owners say all the time that your acoustic sounds its worst the first day you get it. The older it gets the better it sounds. The same with us as acoustic players. The longer we play the better we get. It’s impossible to suck worst then when you started.

Learning the A chords

Learning the A chord is one of the easiest chords to learn.  You can use one finger or two, I have even seen three. Regardless it’s an easy chord to change from and to.

Works great with the E chord and is a great starter chord to get you going.

Here is a Quick video on How to play the A chord

Here are three different A chords to start practicing. Be sure to click on the pics and print or save it for future help.

Finger Tips

Keeping your hands in the right position will not only help your chord changing skills, but will make your chords wring more clear.

Your Fingertips are the wheels that keep this car moving.  If you are a beginner and you are dealing with sore fingertips start practicing like this.

Practice every other day ,that way it’s not so hard to pick up where you left off.

Learning these chords require lots of repetition (muscle memory). Once you get them down,it’s stuck in your brain for ever. Just like riding a bike

If your fingertips are starting to get sore “and they will” just take break for a day and fight through it on the day after.

Your fingers will develop tough skin on the very tips. After a few months of playing you won’t even notice.   Playing the guitar has a lot going on all at the same time, sore fingertips is just half of it.

Remember This…..

The year was 1976 and The Bellamy Brothers were merging into country music and were killing it in the USA,reaching number 1 on the pop charts.

Let your love flow  was released in 1976 and so their merge in to country music began. (If you didn’t know ) 1979 they hit number 1  on the top country charts with If I said you have a beautiful body. The song is played with a capo on the 1st fret and playing the D and  A chord for the main riffs and it goes into using the G chord along with the D and A chords for the course.

Below is the song and the chords that go with it.

Capo I

D G 2x

          D
There's a reason, for the sunshine in the sky

And there's a reason why I'm feeling so high
            A
Must be the season, when that love light shines,
     D D G
all around us.

            D
So let that feeling, grab you deep inside

And send you reeling, where your love can't hide
            A
And then go stealing, through the moonlit nights,
          D D7
with your lover.

              G
Just let your love flow, like a mountain stream
             D
And let your love grow, with the smallest of dreams
             A
And let your love show, and you'll know what I mean,
         D D7
it's the season.

         G
Let your love fly like a bird on wing,
             D
and let your love bind you to all living things
             A
And let your love shine, and you'll know what I mean,
           D Dsus4
that's the reason.

          D
There's a reason, for the warm sweet nights

And there's a reason, for the candle lights
            A
Must be the season, when those love lights shine,
     D D G
all around us.

            D
So let that wonder, take into space

And lay you under, it s loving embrace
              A
Just feel the thunder, as it warms your face,
          D D7
you can't hold back.

              G
Just let your love flow, like a mountain stream
             D
And let your love grow, with the smallest of dreams
             A
And let your love show, and you'll know what I mean,
         D D7
it's the season.

         G
Let your love fly like a bird on wing,
             D
and let your love bind you to all living things
             A
And let your love shine, and you'll know what I mean,
           D Dsus4
that's the reason.

              G
Just let your love flow, like a mountain stream
             D
And let your love grow, with the smallest of dreams
             A
And let your love show, and you'll know what I mean,
         D D7
it's the season.

         G
Let your love fly like a bird on wing,
             D
and let your love bind you to all living things
             A
And let your love shine, and you'll know what I mean,
           D Dsus4
that's the reason.. . . .

* Alternate:

Capo IV

D     = B
G     = E
A     = F#
D7    = B7
Dsus4 = Bsus4

Try downloading the song on iTunes or you can always look on YouTube to find the song and listen to the strumming patterns.
As a beginner you will find it hard to keep up the strumming. So I suggest you just get the chords and  go slow and it will all come together.

Part:1  Simple Strumming

First off clear your head and put out all the bad thoughts you have about strumming the acoustic guitar.

It’s so easy you will be strumming in no time  and putting an end to the struggling.

First you will have to train your strumming hand to keep the beat.

I did a blog post on this topic last year called  tap tap tap

Using your foot to keep the rhythm is the best known source for staying on track with what ever song you are learning.

Now a days you can download apps that have a metronome in the software that will help you get started.  Don’t know what a metronome is? Check this out.

If you are interested in seeing a video on this post, please leave a comment. It would be greatly appreciated.

(Remember, you are in the beginning phase and need to go slow )
